Rolex secrecy, brand fortified over time: In success hides human reason

Everyone aspires to have an expensive Rolex watch on display in the luxury glass cabinets out there. However, few people know that the business that makes these watches has no owner, it does not have to pay taxes to the country and especially no one knows how much money they make from selling watches.

Business talent creates a legendary brand

Hans Wilsdorf has built a career with the watch.

In 1902, Hans Wilsdorf and his cousin Alfred Davis founded wilsdorf and davis (W and D) in London, specializing in swiss watches. However, his company name seemed too long and difficult to pronounce, so Wilsdorf wanted to choose a name that was easier to remember with all countries and languages. "Rolex" was born for that reason.

During this time, the world war made business in the UK less urgent, the price of precious metals increased sharply. So he decided to redirect the company's operations to Geneva, Switzerland. Since then, the name Rolex has become the brand of a high-end watch in the Nordic country.

Unhappy life

Wilsdorf is indeed a businessman, he takes every opportunity to promote and continuously improve products, making the business grow constantly. However, the joy lasted not long, the unhappiness struck him. In 1944, his beloved wife died, more regrettably, they did not have a child together.

Because of his deep love for his wife, Wilsdorf decided not to marry again. Once an orphan, and now that there is once again no one to share feelings for, it is hard to imagine how hard Wilsdorf was to overcome.

He has since decided to build a charitable foundation bearing his name. Use the entire business he built to fund orphans in difficult circumstances like he used to. Of course, Rolex is also on the list of donated assets.

Rolex, after all, is Wilsdorf's heart-consuming mental child. You can't entrust it to anyone else, you want the name Rolex to last with time. Therefore, this business owner chose another way to donate it.

In its will, Rolex will be assigned to the charitable foundation mentioned above. Furthermore, a five-person board will run the company on his behalf, but no one will be its owner. The Rolex Board of Management has two basic objectives. One is to maintain and develop Rolex into a time-long business. Secondly, use the profits earned to fund charitable activities.

The success of a nonprofit

Now Rolex is the pricey watch every gentleman wants to own

This provides an unexpected competitive advantage for Rolex. Since it was given to charity, the business has become a non-profit activity and is not taxable. For the purpose of sponsoring philanthropic activities and preserving the Rolex name as a wilsdorf legacy, its business is not controlled by the government. And almost no one knows what its exact turnover is.

However, there is speculation that Rolex's annual revenue is around $4 billion per year. Since it does not have to pay a dividend to anyone, many estimate that, although Rolex does not sell a single watch, it still has enough money to remain operational for many years afterwards. And of course this company became the world's largest profit-making nonprofit.

Therefore, Rolex's remuneration policy for employees also makes many people covet. Besides the generous salary, the staff also has many attractive holidays all year round. Therefore, the sedity rate at Rolex is only 1%, but in the watch industry, highly skilled employees are also worth a fortune.

Who understands the human reason, the money of wealth is an outer body?

Although Wilsdorf is only a little-known name, his spiritual child continues to grow. And now there are still so many people who long to wear such a trendy and elegant watch in their hands.

Some people still try to hold on to everything until death, but perhaps the best way for everything to be kept is to let go. Rolex today is not a business owned by someone, nor does it cater to any individual. It serves everyone!
