Butterfly World Experience Nature at its Most Beautiful! By Renee Chapple Dawn Ashley About Butterfly World Butterfly World is home to over 150 species of butterfly, although some are seasonal and not visible during all parts of the year. No matter what time you visit, you should be able to see about 50 species of butterfly in the attraction’s outdoor aviaries. The experience is one-of-a-kind. Rather than viewing exhibits, as you would in a zoo, you are able to directly experience the butterfly habitat. The avaries have very high fences and you are able to walk through them. Don’t be surprised if butterflies start landing on you! Sit and relax and let nature mesmerize you and your family at Butterfly World. Butterfly World also hosts a monthly Butterfly Gardening Workshop designed to help you create your own butterfly garden. The workshops cover: Identifying and attracting local butterflies Choosing the plants most likely to attract butterflies Viewing the plants that best attract South Florida butterflies Answering questions about butterfly gardening The workshop is free with paid admission to Butterfly World. It’s not just butterflies, either. Butterfly World is home to the largest free-flight hummingbird aviary in the United States. History of Butterfly World Location and Directions Butterfly World is located in Tradewinds Park on 3600 West Sample Road in Coconut Creek. To get there, take Florida’s Turnpike to exit 69 or Interstate 95 to exit 39. Travel west on Sample Road and you will find Tradewinds Park approximately one quarter mile west of the turnpike. Travel straight into the park and you will encounter Butterfly World approximately one-third of a mile into the park. If you’re traveling on the Sawgrass Expressway, take exit 19 (Lyons Road) and drive south until you reach Sample Road. Turn east onto Sample and drive until you see Tradewinds park. Children ages 3-11 receive a discounted admission rate of $19.95. Children 2 and under are free. If you plan to visit more than once, you should purchase an annual pass. Annual passes for adults are $40 and annual passes for children are $30. Visit the discount section of the Butterfly World website before you leave and print a $3 discount coupon. One other word of warning – Butterfly World is located within a Broward County park. Tradewinds Park charges a gate fee that is in addition to Butterfly World admission on weekends and holidays. The fee is $1.50 per person (ages 6 and older) with a maximum of $8 per car or van.
